It looked hard at first, but once I did the question it was really easy!
I reckon one of the easiest exams.

What put me off a little was the structure of the exam, (no 1/2 mark questions? :( )
The 10 marker was a nice surprise, nice easy question :)

SOOOO HAPPY! :)

Yep the essay was pretty general- but then the last few years have all been general. Different structure though, no asking for chords or symbols or keys or whatever thats usually found in Q1, but ok exam all up.

Melodic dictation was a bit of a pain, I think i got it though, possibly
It took me all 6 goes to write it, so didn't have anymore to check

i wished for more italian terms :(
Yeah, in class we went through a bunch of them I was excited for question 1 asking what does 'this' mean

I thought that modulation question was a bit weird though, may have lost a mark there

Loving that extra 10 minutes for the essay. :)

A very interesting exam. It had its challenging bits, and I don't think anyone was expecting to have to write about the Question 3 piece in the essay, but the questions themselves weren't too bad. I was worried about melodic dictation the most but that wasn't too bad either.

But most people in my cohort found it quite hard.

really? I have 7 in my cohort, they all found it easy.
Maybe your cohort was basing their decision on question 1 as it was different (the 5ths question was also weird, haven't seen one before so don't know how i went)

"Turkey Slap"?!? Ahaha.

Honestly, I found it hard. I know I got the structure wrong - it was rondo, yet for some reason I wrote binary. :(

I thought my essay was alright.

I'm in a class of 5 and the majority found it easy. This is a shame - I did really well in the trial. Most people here seem to think the exam was at least alright, as did my classmates, so I'm not feeling too good.

- it was the beginning of the main melody
- allowed for modulations (not sure if this was right) - EDIT: should probably clarify this for this one i used the 5th degree and said it was a phrygian cadence or something like that
- Double stop in some of the string instruments reinforced the accents indicated (e.g. viola in bar 18)
- end of a sequence (e.g. violin 1 in bar 50-51) - or some shit like that

don't worry. I'm feeling exactly the same as you! i got 90% in my trial. and i think i'm lucky to get 60% in this exam. My class lost our good teacher and whenever we asked the new guy for help he said things 'weren't important'. He didn't teach us anything new all year, so my whole class really had no idea what they were doing. And what is worse is that there are only 3 of us, so if we all went bad...

This is the frutrating thing about exams that are only 35 marks. Losing just a couple marks pulls you down so far. I wish i did music 1 :/

Do you think i could get marks for saying that it was used as both a melodic and harmonic device? (specifying bar numbers for each)
as in it was used in the melody for violin 1 then transfers into the harmony in the viola part

i don't see why not, however, i what i basically do in music exams, is fake it till you make it (in other words bullshit until you see something) so not 100% sure

Was the modulation question 3 marks?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just overanalysing my exam because i'm not very happy with it :/
