hey guys,

my computer is less than a year old but it's not sounding too healthy :s

it's making a very load rrrrrrrrrrrring noise. this has only started since the hot weekend

my questions;

1. is that the fans making those noises?

2. is my computer likely to cark it unless i do something to prevent it?

3. what can i do to reduce the noise and to keep my computer running smoothly???

thanks!!

If its happening in extreme weather it probably is a fan problem. El cheapo fans are poorly made, and hot/cold weather makes the components expand and contract causing vibrations when the fan spins. You should open the case and try and find out where the noise is coming from just to be sure.

If your motherboard supports it you can use programs like mbprobe to keep an eye on your computer's temperature and fan speeds.

yeh i had the same difficulties, i examined the cpu fan and found huge clumps of dust on the back of the blades. Cleaned them up and the constant "rrrrrrr" noises went away

awesome, thanks guys! I think it could be dust on the fans as desribed above

I'mma try opening up my PC and having a look. good idea to keep an eye on the temperature too.

I'm a bit scared about opening my computer so I'mma back up everything this weekend and then do my thing.

What is there to be scared off? It's just like opening your clothes or something, but on the computer.

Just be sure to touch the casing with your bare finger-tips to remove any static shock, best to shock the case than the motherboard.
