best film of the year so far, hands down.

if you can handle the content (paedophilia and gay prostitution/rape - it just escaped a ban last week) you'll find it most rewarding and moving. it's been a while since a film has hit me so hard, and i can't stop thinking about it.

it's out thursday, i just saw an advanced screening.

see this film already, you philistines.

EDIT: rachel mcadams has a cameo.

chain yourself to the theaters and demand your cinematic man-boy love. works like a charm.

i'm going to see it next weekend
i saw palindromes last night; another movie dealing with paedophilia (though in a much different way, i'm sure), abortion and other taboo issues. it's the latest todd solondz movie (welcome to the dollhouse, happiness) - so i guess if you like his past shenanigans you'll like this as well.
the main character is portrayed by 8 different actors through the film. so you've got some formal experimenting as well.

...did you like it, though?

i might see it this weekend since i like solondz quite a bit, but i'm getting a little bored of US indie films that demonize suburbia. i mean, let's pick another target already.

I've only seen Storytelling by Solondz. Too busy to really take a proper look at his stuff these days. If I have time I'll give one of them a go. Which would you recommend out of Happiness, Palindromes and Welcome to the Dollhouse?

happiness is great, welcome to the dollhouse was OK.

storytelling is good for the "say fuck me nigger" bit but the rest of it's pretty weak.

palindromes takes some shots of christians, pro-lifers, pro-choicers
i liked it in all.
though it's still a shot at middle america icecream, still solondz doing his old routine

some great moments though

Yeah, I'm dragging up an old thread, but I just saw this movie on DVD last night...an incredibly powerful and moving movie. I'm so glad I've seen it.

For those that have seen it, thoughts?

Love the quote about this movie by SMH's resident film reviewer Paul Byrnes:
"How anyone could have wanted it banned is beyond me - but of course, the people who wanted it banned hadn't seen it. They rarely have seen films they object to."
