I have just got broadband (w00t!), anyway plugged it all in, put a filter on the telephone (cordless panasonic if it matters) and plugged modem (DSL-G604T) straight into the phone line.

Broadband works fine, phone works fine, however the modem makes an annoying high-pitched noise. Any ideas?

NB: Noise does not disappear if phone is unfiltered or even unplugged.

Call your ISPs tech support (I'm assuming the modem was bundled) and tell them, of course trying to ask for a replacement.

Modem wasn't bundled (I got it from a local supplier and saved almost $150) I have receipt do I'll take it back.

I was just asking as a couple of the DIY tutorials did mention modem noise beng eliminated by installing a filter.

From the modem itself and only when its plugged in to the phone line.

i would say ring telstra residential faults and ask if they can test the noise on the line.... if that comes back clean ring up and demand a new modem.... what ISP u with?

Firstly search the internet for simlar problems. The modem might just be a shitty model. Then I'd ring the manufacturer or send them an e-mail. Telstra wouldn't know what's wrong with a modem that they don't make.

just to clarify, i dont mean ring telstra and ask about the modem, ring them and ask them to do a noise test on the phone line...

when customers ring us about anything to do with noise, we need telstra to do a line noise test...
