Hey there, this is mainly directed towards current or past year 12 students who particpated in the National Art Schools Intensive Studio Practice....
I was wondering if any of you did Photography, or if you know someone who did it? I'm in year 11 at the moment and the applications are due back soon.... and I can't decide whether to pick Photography or Painting for my first preference.
Photography is my main area, although I mainly work in digital, because it's cheaper and I prefer colour photographs. I've just started using the darkroom at school, as we did Digital photography for the first half.... I'm fairly competent in the darkroom, but I was just wondering how much time you actually spend in there? How exactly does it work? Do you go out on small photo-trips or something?
And then there's Painting. I do do a lot of painting, but I tend to do a lot of Mixed Media works.... incorporating photographs, collage, found objects etc into my paintings.... I was wondering whether that type of thing is still cool to do if I pick (and if I get into!) Painting. Did those of you who did Painting see anyone doing that? Or was it strictly just oils, acryclis, watercolours etc....?
For a little help to see where I'm coming from, here's two examples of my mixed media work - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/13623780/ http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18376951/
And three examples of my Photography -

If it's only B+W darkroom stuff, do you think I'd probably better not chose it?
Sorry - I'm lost here. They just sent out the stuff yesterday and I haven't yet had the opportunity to talk to my teacher about it - so thought you guys would be a great source of information.
Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Collette
