"A chromosome is an organized structure of DNA and protein that is found in cells. It is a single piece of coiled DNA containing many genes"
Alright, half yearlies is coming up, and I'll be screwed if I don't study for it.

So let me get this thing straight.
So humans have 23 different pairs of chromosomes, hence there are only 23 different types of DNA strands. DNA consists of parts called genes (which determine a certain characteristic). So genes are essentially patterns of A,T,C,G (because that's what DNA is)

A chromosome is made up of 60% protein (histone) and 40% DNA

Genes are segments (small parts) of DNA e.g. XXXXXXXXX(X)XXXXXX - the X in the brackets is a gene

DNA is made of nucleotides

1 nucleotide = 1base (not with it's pairing), 1 (deoxyribose)sugar and 1 phosphate

So yes genes are essentially patterns of base pairings (AT, CG) with sugars and phosphates.

You probably don't even need to know that much ^^^ for year 10? (Did that answer all your questions?)
