Need help with what subjects to drop (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,

I currently do:
english adv
4u maths
economics
engineering studies
accelerated IPT, which I got 90 in.

my question is if i should drop engineering studies and use my 2 units from IPT towards my atar. im aiming for an atar around 94+ and want to do either maths adv+compsci which needs 93 selection rank or actl+compsci which needs 99 selection rank both at unsw. i would say im fairly decent at math ext 1 and economics and can acheive a b6 in both. for 4u maths i will prob get a mid band 5. english adv im prob getting a low b5. my question is should i drop engineering (which will free up 6 periods a fortnight) or should i keep it and use it as a backup?

i mean are you good at engineering/why are you dropping engineering specifically? and would you have the motivation to keep studying it consistently throughout the year? if so, i'd personally probably keep it considering you're already only studying ten units this year and thus should already have quite a lot of frees.

well if u think that engineering can contribute well to ur atar and can boost it then keep it. If it's taking up ur time and u think u can be using ur time for other subjects then drop

It really depends on how you are doing in your courses- Honestly if you hate engineering, drop. A 90 in IPT is a pretty good mark, congrats.

my year 11 rank for engineering was 55/72... so i think im better off dropping it and using my free periods to grind 4u maths and work on my english. but the only think im worried about is that i have no backup so if i fuck up one of my subjects really badly it could tank my atar

Well if u don’t see urself improving in engineering ur better off dropping. Cause even if u bomb one of ur subjects is engineering going to help boost ur atar or not?

ive used multiple atar calculators and a 90 in IPT and engineering have roughly the same impact on my atar. the highest mark i can prob get in engineering is 91-92 so the difference its gonna make to my atar is pretty small. i think the time i gain from dropping engineering will be more valuable to me as i can use it work on my english (which i am terrible at) and improve my 3u and 4u maths.

if the pros of dropping outweigh the cons then drop engineering
