Can some1 plz explain why diesel engines are more suitable to heavy duty applicatiion than petrol engines?

How hydrogen fuel cells currently work in trial bus and its advantage.

diesel run on higher compressions than petrol. Diesel engines provide more torque and petrols are better for power....thats why 4X4 and trucks are diesel, need the torque. i say google the matter.
