hey everyone, i was wondering if u could help me. I was put into economics for no apparent reason and can't change for a while. But people are telling me not to change because economics is a beneficial subject and it gives me more options for a career. But i hate the teacher and i don't think i want to do it anymore, do u think it is a worthwhile subject to continue with??

well, as always its up to personal choice. i wasnt exactly forced to do economics but the way the lines were arranged, it was either that or chem and no way was doing chem!! its a fairly interesting subject...though it might take a little while to get your head around it since its not like we've ever had a chance to even touch on in any subjects in the junior years. what i mean is that its completely new but just give it a go and u can always drop it if u absolutely can't stand it and are getting absymal marks for it. in terms of career, i can only speak from personal experience, in yr 10 i practically didnt even know the word "economics" existed let alone what it WAS! and now im looking into it as a possible course for uni...so u never know. just give it a shot and who knows? u may just end up liking it. in the end, i think its a very worth while subject, not just coz of the pretty good scaling but it makes you think about alot of things and that is what usually makes a subject "worth while" and/or beneficial

thanks for the advice, i will certainly take it into consideration, it's just i was basically in the exact same situation as u, i absolutely despise chem and it was either that or economics, and i chose economics thinking that it would be fairly interesting and was i wrong. Basically my only problem with the subject is the teacher is probably the worst economics teacher ever. He talks about nothing all period and then tells us to do 4 pages of homework when he hasn't even explained a thing. Basically he expects us to do all the work. I mean i have no idea how to construct production possibility curves and he expects us to do 4 pages worth of production possibility curves... i have no idea what he is on about. I guess i should just stick with the subject for a little longer and if it continues to get worse maybe i should just drop it.

im guessing that you are in year 11.....

i honestly didnt find the prelim course that interesting, but i stuck with it and i am now very grateful...the hsc course is much more interesting and enjoyable....it is also a good scaling subject, which is excellent for uai purposes, provided u do well enough in it......

i reckon u should stay with it......the prelim course will become a bit tedious after a while, but if u r willing to persevere then its definitely worth it....

any subjects is only enjoyable if you understand it and doing well.

yr 11 economics is extremely dry so i can c y ur bored but maybe if u ask the teacher to help u out after class, then u will b able to understand. if he doesnt give u help THEN u can truly say he is a crappy teacher and talk to the head teacher with proof. u cant lose
