People's this is my first time using this because I only just discovered this things...duh!!!:p . Anyway, I just dropped out of Extension 1 maths and now I am doing 2 unit. I want to ask is it impossible for me to gain over 90 as a UAI since I have made this decision, as Extension 1 maths normally scales up your mark to 90+.

It is most definitely not impossible to get over 90 by not doing Maths Ext 1, and even doing it only increases your chances by a very small amount.

I have a friend who attained a UAI of 99.45 and didn't undertake any extension courses (nor any other 'rare' courses such as latin).

In the courses where his exam marks are the same as his assessment marks, he was ranked 1st overall in his school assessments and he then proceeded to score the top exam mark from his class.

If his assessment mark was lower than his exam mark, he was ranked lower than 1st (most likely 2nd). If his assessment mark was higher than his exam mark, he was probably still ranked 1st, but didn't score the top exam mark from his class.
