I am doing an assignment on groups in context and i am doing rural families. I need info on societal attitudes towards the group, power within the community and and positive contributions the group makes to society.

Have you tried looking within your textbooks. The Heinemann textbook, excel and leading edge cover it in extensive detail so if you can get a copy of either one of those you should be quite fine. 
If not just do some brainsotrming together as a group through BOS and I am sure that you'll come up with many ideas and suggestions. Just remember CAFS is about everyday scenarios so just think of what hardships they may have and how they could possibly overcome them.
For e.g. Rural Families often help the community/society by doing volunteer or seasonal work and by producing crops to sell in the local stores. This could be one of your ideas that you could use and discuss.
