Need? LOCUS AND THE PARABOLA (1 Viewer)

just wondering if you need to remeber all the formulas about the locus and the parabla...

i think it is good to remeber the the eqn of the cord from an extranal point?

this is CH9 in Maths in Focus book 2!

you can remember them if you want but make sure you know how to derive them. if theres a 2 mark question that says find the tangent from P, you wont get 2 marks for spitting out a formula. if the question requires you to use the tangent formula for something else, you might be able to get away with it. but usually theyll make you find the tangent in the first part of the q.

but the one that says to fins the equation of the chords, where these points are the tangets to the parabola, requires you to know the formula i think!

yeah that formula is useful because it also allows u to find the cartesian eqn of tangent quickly as well. Multipurpose formula.

Remembering all the formulae for this chapter is very useful, saves alot of time. but be careful cos most of them only apply to the general parabola x^2 = 4ay
