Yeah, I'm sure you've all seen/heard about it, but what the hell...

Be part of a whole new era of home entertainment with the 'new look' PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Play games, watch DVDs and take the action online with PlayStation®2 Network Entertainment - it's all here in one sleek and stylish black box!

While inheriting the basic functions and design philosophy of the older PlayStation®2, the internal design architecture of this new-look console has been completely overhauled, resulting in a slimmer and more lightweight design. Internal volume has been reduced by 75%, overall weight has been halved, and thickness trimmed down to 2.8 cm (thickness of older model is 7.8 cm). Its size is almost as small as a hardcover book, making it easier to carry around and enjoy games and DVD videos anytime, anywhere. Equipped with an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming, the new PlayStation®2 sets new standards in the fusion of design and functionality, further expanding the universe of on-line gaming, as more and more on-line titles become available.

If you want the very best in interactive home entertainment, then there really is no other choice than PlayStation®2. Fun, accessible, sociable and inclusive, PlayStation®2 offers an unparalleled range of audio-visual experiences and is an essential addition to your existing home entertainment set up. Bring your living room alive with some of the greatest multiplayer games known to man, experience the astonishing picture quality of DVD and more, all on a single, simple, plug-and-play unit. With the infra-red receiver now integrated into the PlayStation®2 console design, your DVD remote can now be used immediately.

PlayStation®2 plays host to the largest and most varied range of video games ever assembled. No matter what type of game you prefer, from sports to shoot 'em-ups, from driving to role-playing, PlayStation®2 delivers it all. You won't find exclusive titles like Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, Tekken, Ratchet & Clank or The Getaway on any other console, so whether you're a hardcore gamer, or just fancy a quick blast now and then, PlayStation®2 really is the only entertainment system that matters.

I really need one of those. My current PS2 is getting towards its last legs, methinks.

Probably not, but mine is getting to the stage where it takes a few minutes to read a disc, and it won't even go near CD ROMs (ie: PSOne or music CDs).

<xbox fanboyism> The reason that PS2 is so small is because they use really cheap, low grade parts. Sony did this so they can sell you a new one every revision. And what's with the lack of hard drive support? Probably just to stop HDD loader working.

But I still want one just so I can play GTA! :vcross:

They new ps2 looks nice and sleek, but there is no space for a HDD anymore. I still have my PS2, i havnt touched it since I got Socom, but im going to keep it and maybe in the future use it as a file server/game development platform with the PS2 Linux Kit. But then again the PS3 (Or whatever Sony wants to name it) is coming out next year.

I don't think they will change the name somehow... or the fanboys might get confused! Seriously it worked with Final Fantasy, keep the same name and you get millions of sales however bad it is. Anyway the Xbox is infinitely more useful, you can use it as a linux box, as a sweet DivX player/server, as an emulation machine and as a jukebox. /troll

So what does having a HDD/Not having a HDD change between a PS2 and a PS2-new?
You can't play the Final Fantasy (11?) online game without a hard drive, other than that not much. There was also hack software called HDD loader that allowed you to copy games onto the HDD, so you can't use that either.

XBox has way more uses, yes, but not the games I want. I was considering buying one eventually, but decided against even though all the extras are nice.

I heard that they're making a whole entertainment system based on PS2 technology. I read it in a magazine somewhere. Anyways, they're using the PSX name again, and I think it has DVD recording capabilities, mp3 player, etc. Odds are, though, that it was just a rumour, as I haven't heard anything since.

Remember how they had the PS-X, the chunky grey box, and then the PSOne, the slimmer little brother that was just as powerful, only not as heavy? I'm guessing that the PSTwo is the little brother of the PS2 in the same way as the PSOne.

And Jay, I'd get that PS2 looked at if I were you. I have an ancient PS-X (circa 1997-8) and it runs fine.
ROFL i cant be bothered... It still plays games! :D - Probably because ive dropped if off my shelf so many times - you know how you go to lie back on the bed and your controller cord pulles it off.. yeah well thats it :D
