Ok forgive the poor grammar in title.

7:30 Report last night Costello was already hosing down economic outlook and hence election promises.

My question is this a record backdown from election promises made just 6 days ago? Has the Howard government broken some kind of record by starting to evaluate core and non-core promises in under a week since the elction.

Costello admitted to thinking that the promises were unsustainable and economic outlook not all rosiy during the campaign, so we must ask several questions:

Was he spineless in not bringing these to the fore?

Is he a shameless vote whore who didnt care what was said to win?

Did Howard over-rule him becaue Howard is a shameless vote whore?

Finally given the timing, is Costello:

lining up for a leadership challenge?

Is the economy really that farked up that teh government has to g into damage control already?

Or is he just trying to soften up the electorate for the coming interest rate rises?

Now that was really quite a collection of attacks designed as hypotheticals.

as bone said, they're politicians, what more do you expect...the promises were made to win the election - whether the libs are going to carry them out is another story...
