How exactly does one set out their notes for imaginative journeys?

I can write out themes and quotes and techniques and...etc.

But it kinda seems pointless when I don't know what I'm applying this to?

I COULD BE WRONG HERE BUT:

for each text write a couple of points on
-how they are an imaginative jouney
-write qoutes to prove that they are
-write about how the themes link to an imaginative text
and then
-find ways to link other texts in with each other.
eg; harry potter is an imaginative text bcos of the idea that magic is real, this also links into the idea that is portayed in lord of the rings as ... blah blah blah!
