I don't *cough* have outlook 2003

it still has the problem with messenger being tied to it, where you can exit messenger without first closing outlook.

any way to break this annoying bond?

Yeah, if your using outlook 2002, you just go to menu tools, go to the menu item options. When the options window loads up click on the other tab and delect enable instant messenging in outlook.

Hope this helps

Enable Instant Messaging
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
Under Person Names, select the Enable Person Names Smart Tag check box, and then select the Display Messenger Status in the From Field check box.

if found it in help

I thought you wanted to reverse or break the hold "Microsoft Office Outlook 2003" has on Messenger.

I take it that your post had meant to say:

it still has the problem with messenger being tied to it, where you can't exit messenger without first closing outlook.

Yep, get into your Tools -> Options menu (at the top),
The last tab at the end (Other)

And untick, under Person Names

* Enable the Person Names Smart Tag
* Display Messenger Status in the From field

(Remember: disable or untick these checkboxes)

Hit Apply, then OK.

:)
