Hey guys,

the teachers at my school told us that in Section 3 of Paper 1, the markers are really just looking for strong links between ur texts and ur ability to write a lot.
i dno if the latter is true, however I do think strong links between texts is critical.

But I have no idea in terms of making "strong" links as such. Like I can use words such as "similarly, likewise, furthermore, however .." and all that to make subtle comparisons, but WHAT is it that we have to COMPARE between TEXTS?

Is it the techniques that are common?
The notion of journey?

What is it exactly we have to LINK between texts?
I have no clue!

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks guys.

Yeah, what you want is to have consistency through your response, presented in a synthesized manner. Basically, establish your argument(s)/thesis based on the question, link your paragraphs to this argument, and interrelate the texts that similarly demonstrate this notion of journey ..

For example say your question was "the journey, not the arrival matters" and your thesis was, as a broad example "the journey shapes us, and as such, the arrival is merely a physical end to the exploration of our speculation" ... throughout your essay you would be aiming to satisfy this argument, linking how texts similarly do so "Coleridge uses a conversational tone, as does Robert Frost through the line xyz" ... not the best of examples but hopefully you get the general idea ..

"flair and sophistication" remember that one maain point.
That has nothing to do with the "strong links" rsingh is talking about.

rsingh: You want to think about what each text has to say about the journey, find common elements between texts and then discuss. It's a lot simpler than you think.
