I really need some help!!!
just wondering if anyone could help me out by telling me the meaning of this statement cause it's really annoying me and i need other peoples ideas about what they think it means...

"A dominant factor in Australian Culture is Alcohol Intake as a rite of passage for young people"

I think their trying to say that Alcohol has an influence on young people and it is seen as a step of becoming older and being accepted by your friends
