1. Throughout the past year, there has been a large focus on the Middle Eastern community in the media due to incidents such as the Cronulla Riots and the statements of Sheik Elhihaley, who became a household name after his controversial statement in which he compared women dressed ”immodestly” to uncovered meat. Read the following excerpt from an article from The Daily Telegraph, printed on the 27th of October 2006.

“According to the appalling Muslim cleric and so-called Australian mufti Sheik Taj el-Dene Elhilaly, women who are raped have themselves to blame. That’s the essence of a message delivered by the sheik to about 500 Muslim worshippers in Sydney last month.”

Explain your reaction to the excerpt, and explain how it may have influenced your opinion of the Sheik and possibly your opinion of the Middle Eastern community
