I was wondering if you follow what Summers & Smith say about slideshows for presentations.

Cause I have a 15min max presentation to do and it says

Summers & Smith said:
Do not use too many slides (no more then one every five minutes)

Make sure the slides are not too cluttered; use large fonts (24 point is recommended)

Present on major topic per slide
Now my question is how the hell are you meant to put all the information you need to present on 3 slides??

Well the idea of slides is not to present everything. It will give an overview (keywords) of what you talk about. Go into more detail in the speech - slides are just used so that the audience can follow the key points.

A slide every 5 minutes doesn't seem right - but it will depend really on what you talk about. Somethings may need to go into more detail than other things. But its really up to you.

I have a presentation to do on Thursday and for 15 minutes - our slides add up to 14 so far :p

Just do what you feel is adequate for the presentation. Don't overload the slides with information and don't bore the audience either.

hiphophorray123 - you should have talked about triple bottom line accounting :D god I'm sick of that crap! It needs to die :chainsaw:

How do you suggest that I keep the audience interested, keeping in mind this is for an Accounting unit

hehe, that'd bore me to death straight away! lol.

But when doing the actual speech don't ramble on about crap - go into as much detail as you can in a short amount of time. Sounds strange I know.

If possible use diagrams and pictures to express what your saying.

Don't go overboard with information on the slide (as I have said).

If possible keep to exactly 15 minutes - try not to go over. Mind you, when you do a presentation infront of a group, you tend to speak faster than when you practice.

Don't use too many colours - some colours can be difficult to read, especially if you sit at the back of the room :p

Oh and try and provide examples to illustrate your point if necessary.

Also try and interact with the audience - eg: a discussion. But sometimes this won't work for some presentations.

best to ask your tutor...

coz i mean...some marking criteria for o'heads says they hafta be clear n easy to read...

for WB - my smallest size was 36 and i was told it was too small and illegible?

but then MPW i had exactly the same and was told it was "too big and too easily read"...go figure...lol...

but yeah point is it depends on subject n marker..

1 slide every 5 minutes seems weird..everyone in my tutes has used 12+ and seems like that's acceptable
