For some reason when i start games my computer just automatically closes the program and goes back to desktop. No freezing or lagging, just closing. Never used to happen. I just dont get it.

Have you installed new video card drivers recently, or started playing games other than those you normally play? If the answer to either is yes, you may be able to resolve the situation by trying different drivers.

Failing that, you could be running software which somehow causes issues, so it also might help to try closing everything that doesn't need to be running to check if that's the cause.

Did you set the games to run with a supported screen resolution?

For example, your monitor can only support up to 1024x768 but the game resolution is set to 1600x1200.

This will not work and the logical solution would be lowering the resolution by means of a game setup, game safe-mode or looking into the config files. Generally, in most fps, there should be a cvar "r_mode #" where # is an integer (4=800x600; 6=1024x768).

now im getting this weird message that the "memory could not be 'written'". With like two 0x6958 etc. type codes. its not to do with resolution.

Try running memtest86 for a while and see if it finds any errors.
