I've been overseas and jsut got my results yesterday and they were very SH!T.
But i have problems understand them:

Uai: 56.20 [ yes very low]

Results: exam asses HSC band
Chemistry 60 60 60 3
Eng [standard] 75 71 73 4
2u Maths 70 58 64 3
Ext 1 Math 17 17 17 e1
Modern Hist 77 77 77 4
Physics 56 63 60 3

Ok so i wondering, do those marks look like a 56.20?
And im confused about exam mark and assessment mark? why are 3 of my subjects having the same assesment mark and exam mark?

And does the UAI "guy" take the the best 10 units? cause he took all of 2units of my other subjects but 1unit of ext 1 maths and 1 unit of physics? why?

thanks people

using your last example... just from memory

Physics 56 63 60 3

56 = assessment

63 = exam mark

60 = the average of the above marks

3 = the band

Yes. Remember the UAI is a RANKING. those marks placed you towards the bottom half of the cohort.

Yes UAC takes the best 10 units to calculate the UAI (2 units of english, and the best 8 of other subjects)

this is what SAM estimates for ur marks:

2004 UAI: 59.55
2003 UAI: 61.85
2002 UAI: 64.25
2001 UAI: 68.00

so yeah I would say 56.20 does sound reasonable in comparison to the 2003 and 2004 estimates!

And im confused about exam mark and assessment mark? why are 3 of my subjects having the same assesment mark and exam mark?
what were u ranked in modern history, chemistry and Mathematics X1?

UAC = the UAI "guy"...

Yes, UAC does take ur best 10 units. if UAC were to take ur 2 units of physics, ur UAI would be less than 56.20, UAC will always take the marks which favour u most if u have 10+ units!.... (i.e ur best 10 units, not ur highest 10 units)

The scores that you see are put into columns, except the BOS is too lazy to actually draw a column, so you have to imagine that there is one there, which isn't too much to ask.

As explained above, they are the reported Assessment, exam and average mark. The Average mark is used to place you into a band.

This is what UAC does. It grabs your 2 best English units, no matter what the marks are, and stores that value. It then divides every other 2 unit subject into singular units. So say you got 70/100 for modern history, this becomes 2 lots of 35/50. It then sorts out which are your 10 best units. This is so that if you did excellently in a 1 unit subject, it can eat into a subject that you did poorer in.

They give you an overall mark out of 500 (aggregate), and then it ranks your mark amongst everyone else.

So what ever mark out of 500 you got, was enough to rank you at 56.20.

The assesment marks are moderated thats why - they arent your raw marks. Theres an explanation of all that floating around on BOS somewhere.

Isn't the middle UAI 50? If not what is the middle UAI?

The mean UAI is 66.
