my cd burner has, over the last week or two, started playing up. i use recordnow and have never had problems with it in the past, but now it constantly gets to 98%... and stops. the timer will go down to zero, and it'll just stay stagnant at 98%; the program won't close no matter what i do, or even allow me to restart/shut down the computer the proper way, and i have to physically turn off the power to shut the program down. usually about half the cd works, today the one i *attempted* to make worked up until 20secs into track 11 (of 19). i haven't installed any new hardware or software recently (save for reinstalling bittorrent) so i'm not sure what's wrong at all...

with my task manager, it refuses to open when I press alt ctrl del, I've experimented with other ways of getting into it, but it just doesn't seem to open... again, no idea why

thanks for any help or advice you can give :)

Several things you could try:

- Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling record now?
- Are there other CD burning software you can try?
- Try using other brands of CD to see if it makes a difference.

As for the task manager problem, does it pop open and close straight away? If thats the case, you might have a virus on your computer. Update your virus scanner and do a check, and update and run any spyware removal software you use.

Other ways you might want to try to get to the task manager:
Start -> Run -> taskmgr
or
right click on empty space in your task bar, and click on Task Manager.

I've tried 3 different brands of blank cds. last night I had to back up all my documents, and discovered that there's no problem with burning data cds... just audio.

I know I definitely have a virus, because anytime I try and go to any of the major security sites, or open norton (my secondary virus scanner) they open and close right away. the task manager is different, it just doesn't open at all.

In that case, its a bit hard to help you with any problem you might be having with your computer since its going to be hard to tell if its just the virus/adware or genuinely a software problem.

Update your antivirus/adware software and scan your system.

Since your task manager won't work you could download another process viewer to kill the virus' process, to allow you to open your virus scanner and scan your computer.

unless your computer is mission critical and you leave your computer on 24/7 and you have really important data on your computer....DON'T bother updating windows....
leave it as is...

your computer will run more efficiently without the updates

I do leave my computer on 24/7. usually because I leave major downloads overnight.

glycerine - if you know someone who has broadband, it's probably easier to write all the KB's down and download them separately, burn them to CD for the next time u format

- Is the media 30x rated?

- Tried reinstalling Nero?

- Make sure you have UDMA enabled. Go to the Device Manager under System in the Control Panel. Open the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" (or similar) node in the tree, and choose the channel your burner is connected to. Click on Advanced Settings, and make sure "DMA if available" is selected.
