proving one fo the set theorems (1 Viewer)

allright.. U stands for the union thing, ^ is the intersection thing, and heres the question:

A U C (is subset of) B U C

A ^ C (is subset of) B ^ C

now i have to prove A (is subset of) B

my proof turns out to be wrong.. grr..

Consider a member of A.
Case 1: It is a member of C as well. Then it is a subset of B^C (as it is in A^C) and hence of B
Case 2: It is not in C. Then from the first statement it is a subset of B U C and as it isn't in C, it is in B.

Case bashing works wonders doesn't it?
Usually in these set things, you can't say much concrete until you assume something... another way of doing this would be drawing a venn diagram and looking at that.

So, turtle, you actually choosing maths (and overloading maybe?), even though it does not count towards your degree?

I was thinking to change from seng/science to seng/MbioMedE, since master sounds better, and that'd mean me not doing maths (will still be sane though), but is there any ways to keep maths:?

umm... some of it was gened.
The vast majority of people do something bludgy, some people do arts (eg chinese or history or politics or something), I elect to do maths instead... tho that required some running around and administation...

now it's overload. If you want to do biomed, there's almost no maths involved... it depends on how much you want to do it. I'm guessing that that course would involve quite a lot of hours spent already, but if you want to do say 5 extra hours worth of stuff in the semester, well by all means go for it
