what does it mean when it says something to the effect of 'students explore the underlying assumptions behind representations of journeys'???

^ Or, general underlying assumptions about journeys. Eg, some people think that a journey has a specific start and end (and concequently have this theory strengthened or broken into pieces), some think that one has multiple or singular journeys, some think that all journeys are an individual thing/shared thing, etc etc. Composers think different things, and convey them in different ways in order to evoke the desired reaction from their audiences.
