when it says that the [ IMG ] code is OFF, the tag won't work, and a link to the image will come up instead.

no, unless the HTML code is on. then you put the image between html tags, ie < img > < / img >
if neither are on, then try attaching the image - click "go advanced" under the reply box --> manage attachments.
