question concerning CRT monitors (1 Viewer)

when i had ipt lesson today...we had this ancient computer sitting there, it was a macintosh but uses a crt monitor...however, its one of those old comp that just gives out green light...u know those ones?? like green and black only...

getting back, when i told my teacher that if i were to put a magnet in front of the monitor, the image displayed will not be normal, however, my teacher said that the bit depth of the monitor is zero..(i think, or something like that)...coz it only 'turn on and off'...

my question is....wat will happen if i put a magnet in front of that monitor...

A magnet will effect those old monitors in the same way as it effects new ones.

if you place the poles parallel to the monitor the distortion is greater, and if one pole is pointing towards the screen and not brought too close, the effect would be less (think of the fields).

the magnetic field around the magnet will affect the electrons....in the same way the mag. fields affect them in the tubes.

we did that once actually on our imacs at shool....there was a blue-ish purple 'stain' on the monitor. by moving the magnet around it pretty fast we got rid of it!!
