Nifty little program I discovered, called 'Quicksilver': http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/
I'd also suggest you read this tutorial: http://vjarmy.com/archives/2004/03/quicksilver_a_b.php.
Quicksilver is like a launcher. 'Invoke' it (by pressing control+spacebar) and type in the first few letters of an application you want to launch. Invoke and press the period key (which switches it into text-entry mode) then press the tab key and type in 'define'. Quicksilver goes out on the internet and finds a definition for you.
Type in the first few letters of a bookmark in Safari.
And so on. Quicksilver's scope can be expanded by the means of downloadable modules from the site.
Sure, for those of us that have Tiger you probably won't need/want this, but for those who don't, this is a good enough replacement. I still use it, even though I've got Tiger installed. Because the scope of files Quicksilver indexes is smaller, it's quicker in finding results. I still use spotlight for other system files, but apart from that, Quicksilver is it. Guess it's all about choice!
