Random msnm disconnects (2 Viewers)

my MSN M (Version 7.0.816) randomly disconnects b/w every 10secs to say, 10mins, while leaving the internet connection running perfectly.

i've been searching google and forums and have narrowed it down to this;

account related ? ;
no, because i remain online with no disconnections using java based msn2go.
no, because i made a temporary non-hotmail account and it still disconnects frequently and randomly.

i dont run msnplus, or any other plugins.

i've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting registry folder, and even trying older versions of msn, and even the new beta v. 7.5.

running winxp, sp2, adsl 1500, xp firewall off (and i've tried on with exceptions on)netgear router with wireless access.

i've also tried trillian basic 3, and the disconnections with my msn acct actually crash trillian.



the only thing i can say, that there must be a "setting" or feature that i've missed, or accidently turned off.


this ones a curveball, so i appreciate any suggestions.

Msn is a bit screwed sometimes...Once i couldn't see someone's messages and they got pissed at me for 'not replying'...

Theres MSN Web...i think that one has no problems from those who were fed up with msn 7 used that...it's run by the web browser...so if your internet is running fine, then that is an option...

Perhaps you have a winsock problem :\

Did Trillian work fine if Messenger was not running at all?

Yeah trillian opens up fine (without msn running), but as soon as i go to connect to MSN via triliian, the thing crashes.

Im not sure if its a winsock problem, because i download this winsock fix ? that is supposed to restore the settings ? in case they have been deleted (possibly as i use system mechanic to get rid of invalid reg files)

Hm, ok, well if both programs are crashing on connect, then it'd be putting money on (obviously) a program with your computer, but more specifically winsock.

Two questions ,

Are you using IE7 ? This seems to be generating errors in IM programs;
Did Trillian dump an error report file somewhere?

Yeh i installed IE7 to trial, couldnt get rid of it, (how do i btw) but my default browse is Firefox.

Yeah trillian did dump an error file, .dmp - and before it crashes it says something like, revert any changes youve made to trillian etc.
