can someone explain this?? like for example in 2016 in advanced english a weighted raw mark of 82.5 was a aligned reported mark of like 92 and considered a band 6? does that mean the 92 is the mark used in the calculation of the atar or what???

Yes, that 92 mark you get is what shows up in your HSC marks (so like a 94 doesn't mean you got a 94 raw mark)

Only if your final HSC mark is above 90.

does that mean the 92 is the mark used in the calculation of the atar or what???
Sort of. It's the 82 (say) which is used, but the 92 still has meaning. The 82 raw is actually scaled by UAC - this is to adjust your mark such that your 82 is comparable to all other subjects. That scaled mark is then added with your other scaled marks to form an aggregate. You are then ordered from the highest aggregate to the lowest, for which an ATAR is then assigned. The scaled mark is not the 92 which you got. That is purely the calculation of NESA who perform moderation and aligning to get from 82 to 92. UAC is a separate entity - they perform scaling to get from 82 to some scaled mark which is unknown because the 82 is actually unknown to students unless they buy their raw marks. The 92 has meaning in that since raw marks are not provided, UAC reports the scaled mark against the HSC mark (the 92).
