My sister installed the game "The Sims" on my computer about a weeks ago when her friends came over and I have been having some problems trying to delete it. When I go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs" and click on "The Sims", I get the message "Unable to locate the installation log file 'C:\Program Files\The Sims\Uninst.isu'. Uninstall will not continue."

So I went and manually uninstalled "The Sims" of all it's components but the name "The Sims" is still there but with no file size, if you know what I mean. So, I run "regedit.exe" to see if I can find and files lying around. I run into a file called "CO7ft5Y" and upon clicking on it two sub-files open called "The Sims" and "WinXP". So I deleted "The Sims" file but in "Add or Remove Programs" "The Sims" option is still present.

So I am just wondering if the file "The Sims" I deleted in the "Registry Editor" was a bad move. Also, if anyone can tell me how to delete "The Sims" once and for all, please do tell me. Thank you:).

Hmm there are programs that will clean up your add/remove programs list. Check download.com or zdnet or something.

You might also want to clean up your registry since there may be more keys lying around from the game...

I'd promote some products that I use but I tend to download/install on a one-use basis.. :)

don't play around with the registy if you don't understand it.
you can seriously stuff up your computer.

at least make a back up before tinkering with it

Yep that's true, don't fiddle around with it, it can have adverse affects but if you know how to use it, it can even be positive results :-D, that's if your into tweaking your system performance.

I really did not want to fiddle with the Registry Editor but the game still showing up in the Control Panel was annoying me. So does anyone know if the file I deleted was important? I just assumed it was associated with the game because it was titled "The Sims":).

Or, if you still have The Sims, install it, uninstall it (properly)

:)

No such luck. I suppose I can get it back easily enough though, if that will work:).

It should be able to work.

I dont play games that often, i rarely do...
but you should be able to install it again, on top of partial uninstalls or installations, and then have the files copied over, registry settings/keys entered, and then uninstalling it via the add/remove menu (control panel).

that way, it'll think that you've installed it normally, for the 'first' time, and you'll be able to get rid of it as you would any other game/app. :)

Thank you Huy (again);). I will definitely try that out:).

Sure, not a problem :)

Tell me how it goes... (I would imagine this method works, because there is no harm in reinstalling, in an effort to uninstall -- if that makes any sense) :)

Will do, it will probably take two or three days to get the game back though:).
