I was thinking of having a thesis along the lines of "belonging is a feeling that comes from within, and must be formed by the individual according to their own perceptions"

And for related texts, I was thinking of:
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey
and the movie Requiem for a Dream.

showing how they create their own sense of belonging - within the institution to each other, and in requiem, to their addictions.
