You should directly link your pescribed texts with your related texts.

Jane Eyre the novel and the BBC production is over done so are many of Dicken's texts esp with people doing Gaskell's North and South. Elizabeth Barret Browning's poetry(Aurora Leigh) is interesting it can be linked easily to Ibsen's Doll's House. Robert Browning copied much of his wifes work, this is also why he married her. Aurora Leigh is an arduous epic poem, i hated it, it only really deals the subjugation of one's sex and education.

Which Browning poems are you doing?

As related, Im doing an Australian Novel 'My Brilliant Career' by Miles Franklin which is quite good and not really overdone at all. Also, thinking of doing Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy which seems to link well with the whole I&S genre.
