Hi people, I have a question....

When a question specifies that you use AT LEAST ONE text of your own choosing. What benefits (or detriments) would there be in doing more than one?

I only see that doing more than one as being time consuming and it is very hard to compress more than one related text into a response without having to omit or limit some necessary details of other texts. However, looking at the Student Answers book, I see that most of the high range responses use more than one related text.
If I compress another related text into my response, it limits the details that I can go into other texts but there would be a diversity in the areas of language that would be analysed (which is part of the band 6 descriptors). However, if I use only one related text and go through the details as I intended, that language analysis diversity is lacked but there would be detailed textual knowledge and analysis (which is also part of the band 6 descriptors). What do you think I should do? (This applies to Modules as well as Area of Study)

Doing more = ability to use contrasts to different types of ______ journey. Doing this, your essay will have more analysis on the journey, whether your texts shows contrasts, different aspects, or strongly support your argument. It also allows you to demonstrate your understanding of more than two mediums. It also shows you have read widely, and have been thoughtful with your understanding of journeys.

Doing just one = leaves you with only three texts in total (stimulus doc and core). I suppose it will allow you to see in depth, which is quite beneficial.

I agree, its a bit of a toss up. But personally I'd do two when that question arises.

Those are just my opinions while considering the english syllabus.
