HSC
2024
Hi all, I finished my HSC this month recently and I want to just collect my thoughts on what I used & bought to help me study (and to help up and coming students with their study/study decisions). Caveat: By no means am I the smartest kid, I'm prolly ending up in the mid 90s ATAR or 97-98 if lucky, but I think this will help with a lot of year 10s, 11s and 12s buying notes online or tutoring. Here is a section on section take:

Buying Notes off Past Students on Bored of Studies

Grade: A-
It can be pretty hit and miss - there are gems out there from past students. I found that just because someone got 99.95 doesn't mean their notes are good (some are). Some are better at articulating their thoughts into notes and are more comprehensive. Some have actual notes for English, others just an essay they memorised.
BUT!!! I bought a few sets of REALLY GOOD ones that I highly recommend:
1. @FriendlyHelper : (https://boredofstudies.org/threads/99-95-hsc-notes-state-ranker-english-mod-eco-maths.407681/). This guy is insane, I wrote a review on his thread but his notes are so damn good. 100+ pages for Mod & Eco with stats. The best part? He structured them like responses to short answer questions. English as well better than any teacher I ever had, notes, essays everything. For really cheap as well. He sends samples too.

2. @StalinWasCuteInHis20s : (https://boredofstudies.org/threads/96-mod-and-eco-notes-99-80-atar.408075/#post-7568206). A good example of someone who did not get 99.95 or state rank but his/her notes are so good and detailed. Only Mod & Eco but still, pretty goated. I could tell this person put a lot of effort in and synthesised a lot of textbooks.

I sure there are other great sellers but I didn't have $500 to try them all out sorry. but please list them below by replying to help people out

Getting Notes of Graduates from Your School
Grade: C+
Honestly my school for the year above was not the best and some tried to charge me $100 for notes. But if you got some mates in the years above, sure. But I feel if you are not in a top ~15 school, then the year above notes is probably not the golden standard. Would prefer buying notes off past students on Bored of Studies which achieved pretty good things.

Buying Notes from *********/Those HSC Guides
Grade: D
Awful. Pretty useless in my opinion. They give pretty much a band 4 response and notes most of the time and do not have enough detail + are hella expensive. I borrowed a few from my school library and returned them the next day. AVOID

Going to Tutoring
Grade: A-
Would be an A but cost has to come into consideration. For Maths, I get it but for humanities and English (which I did), I found every 2-hour, $150 lesson would have ~10min of content that actually benefited me (group tutoring that is). I found the cost-reward ratio to be pretty unfavourable but the quality is probably good. I went to Dr Du English & Matrix FYI. Notes are probably a lot cheaper.

Overall, I am feeling charitable and happy hence the rant, so good luck for all of you for HSC and comment down below if you recommend some BoS user's notes. This post is more dedicated to notes students can by off BoS.

Hope everyone has a great term 4 & Christmas!
