How did people define the local and global?

This was heatedly discussed and ruminated upon during the study of this unit. I'm very interested to know how people chose to define these terms/entities/ideas.

From a very loose perspective, global tends to look at generalised "same-ness" (and the things that connect us to other global entities) whilst the local tends to look at specific things that make us different.

However you'll find the two crossover quite a lot and as the course goes on you may even find that it's "dangerous" to try and categorise between the two. :) But I think as a starting point, it's a good thing to discuss to sort of get your head around it a bit.

Quoting from my EE1 HSC answer, "the concept of RFTG is not as black and white as some texts would suggest but comes in infinite shades of grey" [sic]. In other words, I had no worthwhile and in depth definition.
