How long does it take to rip a full, 2 hour movie DVD.
Really depends on your processor, ram, etc. Some programs don't encode in real time (length of movie = encode time), some do. Also depends on target quality.

[edit] oops, meant encode, not rip. see post below. [/edit]

Only a few mins to rip, about 6 hours to encode a good quality, two-pass .avi

More than anything on computers, converting DVDs to DivXs is an art.

We're talking about a DVD to which you hold the copyright aren't we?

Of course, the DVD compilation of images, sounds, and video clips, of his recent trip to barbadous. :)

why hasn't anyone mentioned DVD2SVCD
he asked for the an 'easy' way
dvd2svcd converts anything to anything
for eg. avi->mpeg
avi->vcd or svcd
or dvd->mpeg or vcd or svcd
whatever you want
You can find it on a search engine
I believe it is a free program

Cheers

that only converts avis and stuff to mpgs i think

i use something like dvd decrypter to rip the ifo and vob files, and then gordion knot to do the encoding (which links to a few other utils which perform various functions).

if you want something that does a good job and is easy, download dr divx and get the crack for it

whatever you do, always do 2 passes.

this is the best one.. so easy to use. and user friendly interface. no need to download several programs.. this one does it! you can also choose how amny files u want to rip the dvd into, and also.. choose how big the files u want them to be.. i personally choose 1 file of 699MB so it fits on a CD without a fuss!

www.divx.com <-- download DR. DivX, < >

TEMPEnc is good for spliiting and merging mpgs without loss of quality
GOODLUCK

So very true.

But may i highlight to you all that ripping DVDs is illegal, even if you own the original DVD.

In this country, making a copy of anything that is copyrighted, even if you purchased the disc or you are mkaing a copy for "personal backup", is still illegal.

Hopefully with the free trade and copyright changes that they are making, it may ease restrictions on this. The only DVD you can rip is one that you made from your own creative process and burnt to disk.
