Hi,
My son appeared in the NSW Selective test this year - there aren't any expectations for him to get an offer. Likely he'll try again in later years and try to get into an appropriate Selective school. He is above-average in Math and English, non-sporty and likes doodling/sketching.
Our current situation is that we have to vacate our rental home by early to mid Sep. So, we now have the option to move to a suburb with a good non-Selective school. We are looking at Carlingford/Ryde/Epping area. But I heard that Selective reserves/offers could continue for several months after results. In case there's an offer, it likely would be after we have moved house in Sep. And we may end up far from the Selective school.
More likely we would be enrolling in a non-Selective school for now. He may or may not get into a Selective school in later years. Does that mean we move house again to be nearer to that Selective school? I know a family where the boy travelled long distances to a top Selective school. But that kind of commute doesn't look like a wise option to me. I am curious as to how this is usually dealt with? Do kids travel long distances to their Selective schools or do families move houses to be closer to the Selective schools? I am especially interested in knowing about moves in Yr8-11. How does the school hopping play out - it appears quite disruptive for both the kid and families. Sorry, this got a bit long. I would appreciate views of some members here. Thanks.
