Say i wanted to do a double major in 'biochem' and 'med microbio and immunology', do i just enroll in the courses relevant to both majors at first(since they're the same for the first semester or whatever) such as CHEM1031 etc. and then go ahead and make an effort to choose the actual majors at a later date?

slightly confused here

thankyou

I don't think you can double major in advanced science. That's what I was told at info day.

hmm i called up and apparently you can choose to use your elective courses as a double major.

I believe you can double major if you're doing a single degree.

For now, you just follow the stuff in the handbooks. So just enrol in level 1 courses for the majors you want to complete - up to 4 of them. Don't enrol in more than 24uoc of courses per semester. 24uoc is normal load.

Perhaps BIOS1101 is only available in Semester 2.

I think you're right semester 2 only

but that only leaves me 3 courses as i must finish chem1031 before as a prerequisite for the other chem classes, and BIOS1101 is out of the equation

Stage 1
BABS1201 Molecules, Cells and Genes (6 UOC)
BIOS1101 Evolutionary & Functional Biol (6 UOC)
CHEM1011 Chemistry A (6 UOC) or CHEM1031 Higher Chemistry A (6 UOC)
CHEM1021 Chemistry B (6 UOC) or CHEM1041 Higher Chemistry B (6 UOC)
MATH1031 Mathematics for Life Sciences (6 UOC) 1 or or MATH1131 Mathematics 1A

I thought you were supposed to do 24uoc each semester??

Yes, you can take CHEM1031 in Semester 1 and then CHEM1041 in Semester 2. They are linked courses.

Nothing prevents you from overloading if you want to study more, right?

They usually don't allow first years to overload.

In later years or semesters yes, and if your marks are high. But always I'd think you'd have to check with your Program Office.

So for the first semester i can only choose

BABS1201 Molecules, Cells and Genes (6 UOC)
CHEM1031 Higher Chemistry A (6 UOC)
MATH1131 Mathematics 1A (6 UOC)

Hmm, that's odd. I didn't know they had SCIF1131. Apparently you can pick which one you want... according to the Handbook. I don't know about SCIF1131, I think it must be a new course.
