Hi,

I'm not exactly sure how internal rankings affect our overall marks, but I was wondering if ranks are compared across the state.

In my Extension English 1 class there are only 4 people, of which I am ranked 4th. The gap between us is negligible, and comprises only a few marks. Say our class was compared with a class of 20, would the UAC/whoever see me as being equivalant to 4/20, or 20/20?

It is even worse in our Extension 2 class, which has 2 people doing it (yep, im coming 'second', or 'last', depending on which you prefer). The gap between us was 2 marks last time i checked.

Any idea if these "poor" ranks will have a huge impact on my aligned marks/UAI?

Ranks are not compared across the state.

Essentially, your assessment marks will be moderated to have a similar distribution to the examination marks gained by your class.

The HSC exams are used as a statewide 'benchmark' to moderate the assessment marks from each school, thus placing them all on a common scale.

You can simulate the impact of the moderating process on your marks via this prototype:
