So I'm doing B Economics/B Arts, and I'm trying to enroll for courses but I have no fucking idea what to select. I know I need 132 UOC for Economics and 108 UOC for Arts (240 total), but don't know what's compulsory and what's not. There's multiple sections on UNSW's clusterfuck of sites that contradict each other, some saying certain courses are necessary and others not.

It seems as though I have to select a major straight up if I want to meet the UOC requirements/year, but I thought we were able to select them after we'd finished our 2nd semester?

TL : DR - What classes do I enroll in for Economics/Arts?

Ok, say I've figured out what courses I need to do for my first year, but don't know which classes to select.

Do I just select any class, or...?

Your class determines your timetable. Go select a nice one that gives you a neat timetable.

As long as you select the required lectures, tutorials and so on... you can choose whatever classes and times you wish, permitted that they're not already full or closed.

So the maximum UOC per semester for Economics/Arts is 24. If each course is 6 UOC, then I'll need to be signing up for four courses this semester. Considering I need 132 for Economics, and 108 for Arts, I'll sign up for 3 Economics-related courses and 1 Arts-related course for the next two semesters, and then 2 of each, each semester until I finish.

That adds up to 132 for Economics and 108 for Arts which is 240 total. Ok.

Sound about right?

Is there any rush to complete compulsory courses or can I leave them for later?

Something like that. There may be more requirements like 48 cp of Level 1 courses at maximum or something. Make sure you satisfy all of them!

Under the 'Prerequisite' section of some courses it says 'Excluded' and then lists courses like Maths etc

Any idea what this means?

Ok ignore my last post, I figured it out.

Last question. lol.

How do I know what a 'Level 1 Arts and Social Science course' is? It doesn't specify anywhere in the 2011 handbook. :/

Level 1 courses are ones labelled 1xxx or something.

Also, what was the answer to the exclusions? I don't know...

The 'Excluded' section was actually another field altogether that had been formatted incorrectly and was sitting on the 'Prerequisites' line. Basically, 'Excluded' means you can't enrol in the courses listed because they're very much the same. I guess it's to prevent people from enrolling in two courses that are virtually identical whilst still receiving 6 units of credit for each.
