So subject selections are due in 2 days, and I'm still on the fence about choosing software or business. I've selected business studies for now, although I am considering replacing it with software engineering.

If I get into 4u math I'm immediately dropping either, but if I don't, I'll be forced to stick with either. My main concern with software engineering is the major work, considering I am absolutely terrible at time management, and having already completed a major work has simply reinforced that.

Thoughts?

ohh okay we're doing mostly the same things.
Do you think you'll enjoy software engineering and do you see yourself doing a certain course that requires it at uni?

Also it may be a good idea to ask the "2026 HSC CHAT" thread, you can get more opinions faster.

currently doing the new software syllabus, since there is a little amount of resources it depends on how good your teacher is. Your first assignment will most likely be a research task which is boring asf. Then it's a project that goes from term 2 to halfway through term 3 (at least for me). Then finally ur prelims. It's fun at times, and tedious and boring at others. Unless u see yourself in the future requiring something to do with software, I don't really recommend it. But if you really are interested in it then there's no issue in taking it.

do business imo
its more structured, more resources, and links better with economics (meaning the course structures and assessments are more similar and easier to master)

also if you don't get into 4u you will still have 13 units which is too many imo for year 12. i would drop a subejct regardless. dont get locked into the midnset of which subject ur dropping now tho cause you might discover that you dislike another subject or dont perform well in it. reevaluate that towards the end of year 11.

i'm hesitating on choosing business mostly because i feel like the content is boring and software engineering would be more interesting. plus a lot of my friends are doing software engineering and the subject overall feels more suited towards my future career paths as compared to business

Then I'd advise you to take it, even though teachers say not to choose subjects solely because of your friends (I agree to some extent), it makes the boring classes so much more bearable. Also, Software has a major work, so if you like to work on one project for basically the whole year then you should do it, but remember, major works do have a bit of a commitment, and time management is essential.

lol this was basically me with the asian 5 and I just did business as backup.. I was planning to drop it in yr12, but it's an easy band 6 I might choose it over physics ☠ The content is boring at times but it really depends on your teacher, a lot of it is yap and common sense, also you already have a huge workload but do software engineering if you want to be an engineer or go IT related, I still think business will teach you some useful things despite it being boring it's easy unlike software.
