i googled the problem, and it says all this stuff about reinstalling drivers, but i dont know where the cds are, and my bro isn't home (he usually deals with the techy crap). any ideas? =/

hmmm it sounds like DirectX is damaged somehow. A quick get around until your brother comes back to fix DirectX is to not use DirectX for winamp.

Go to Winamp preferences, under "Plug-ins" click on "Output", double click on "waveOut" (or similar). You'll get a new window, just click OK to that one. Hit close on the preference window, restart winamp and try play your files.

right click on my computer > properties

navigate to the Hardware tab, and go to device manager

now tell me which ones have an exclamation mark on it.

nope, whenever there's meant to be a sound (like a beep in IE or whatever), the tower makes a beep instead

is your computer custom built or... a company branded?

hmm, well my bro came home, he goes 'ill reinstall the sound drivers when i get home', so yeah
i know where they are, but id rather not fiddle around with the stuff (that way i cant be blamed if anything goes wrong, haha)
i just wanna try and find a solution that doesnt involve me opening my tower up, or reinstalling anything
