Hi, I'm interested in doing Computer Science but I've got a couple of questions...
1) Is it possible to do more than one specialisation?
2) How about in a combined degree with...say... engineering?
3) If you do it in a combined degree, can you still do a minor, for example, Japanese? And would this be enough for the language qualification to go on foreign exchange?
4) How much would specialisation affect future career path?

...And that's all I can think of for now ^^

Not that I know of, but don't quote me on that

Yes, except for comp eng, seng and binf.

I'm guessing this will depend on what you combine with.

Depends on your career path! It would give you an edge, but as far as I know your specialisation doesn't appear on your testamur.

Thanks for your reply :)
Actually what I meant with question 2 was whether you could do more than one specialisation even with a combined engineering degree (bar the computing ones) but I guess since you already answered 1 that kinda rules it out =/
and for 3, how about if I combine engineering and computer science...?
Thanks again! ^^

No, as your computing part will take up all your science part of the degree.

My two cents - don't bother having too much specialisation. Just start off with the degree that interests you and work your way up.

Ah I see, thanks for the info. Well, either way, I still plan to do computer science :)

The specialisations in comp sci aint set in concrete so to speak... you don't exactly enroll for them anywhere. least thats what I've been told many times

Sorry to post here but I have a question regarding laptop/notebook (yet again):
Is it necessary for computer science students to have one for this degree?
Do most students use/bring their own?

Thanks in advance!
