Think about lime tree bower: Coleridge has no idea where his friends are or what they are feeling, but he speculates about their location and the beauty of their surroundings.

Frost at midnight: he speculates about his 'cradled infants' future in school. He wants his child to have a more unrestricted schooling through listening to the 'universal language they thy God utters'.

To speculate is to 'form a theory or conjecture about a subject without firm evidence'. Its also to predict something that will happen in the future. So think about the use of the imagination to enhance the understanding of one's self and environment. How does the persona's journey help them to speculate?
