Man I am stressing over these stat books they sent me should I be doing every question in them. At this stage all I have done is read the info at the start and look over a few questions. For people who got good marks in STAT what did you do? like how did you study or was it just general knoledge that got you through? Thanks

I like to think I count...

Yeah, I did the STAT or the RET or the whatever they want to call it...

I got a score of 73, i didn't really do the questions, I looked at a few of them and hoped for the best.

If you are stressing, perhaps, you should do all the questions in the booklet for some kind of peace of mind.

I did STAT and I recommend that you do all the practice questions they send you. Time yourself and make sure you do it within the time limit. This is the best and only way to study for multiple choice. For written english, study is more valuable...try writing some practice essays within the time limit stipulated. Also, look at all the past questions and see which questions are similar. Then prepare something on these topics. You won't be able to write the exact same thing obviously, but at least you have something to include in your answer in case you get a mental block.

Quality is more important than quantity (to a reasonable extent).
Make sure you get your essay structure right...introduction...topic sentences...backing up statements with evidence...conclusion etc.

Also make sure your spelling and grammar are correct (you MUST proof read your work atleast once even if this means writing a bit less)

One of the questions is a reflective piece right? This might be a different structure.

Also for multiple choice, after doing the practice papers, you should find that you get roughly the same mark for each past paper. They do this deliberately so that the degree of difficulty remains the same each year.

no calculators are allowed - the questions are basically common sense. I got 89 for my RET/STAT test and I relied upon my own general knowledge.

Just watch your time - don't spend too long on any one question. When you do the writing section make sure you're using formal grammar.

The only preparation I did was looking at the books that were sent out to me so I could get an idea of what the questions would be like. That certainly helped me. :)

Good luck!!

P.S. They change the content of the exam for each session, so I wouldn't bother asking others about it. It only limits your preparation anyway. ;)

I apologise, i didn't know....maybe in that uws student list we should also add how we got into uni as well like via UAC, STAT, Trasnfer, MAture Age, Tafe etc. then we can just pm that person about...
