I installed a new sound card in my comp (yamaha xwave) and now when i play music i get heaps of static when im playing through my tdk tremor speakers. Could it be that im using a poor quality non shielded cable? Cos the cable is like 10 yrs old and really thin...?

Thanks but my sound card is decent and so are my speakers. I get lots of 'pops' aka static, so i guess its the cable?

EDIT: It does it at all volumes.

Try rearranging your setup to see if it helps before investing in new cables.

Do you have a chance to try the speakers on another sound card (onboard sound card?). I assume you've checked other combinations of cables and left/right speakers and found it was only the right connection that has the problem. Perhaps you should do a search and see if this is a common problem in the speaker's model.

 If it didn't happen on your old sound card, it should be apparent that your new sound card it the cause. If the new card is PCI, try moving it into a different slot or physically away from other cards in your computer.

Unless you really have a reason to or you're an audiophile, not really.

yes but things have moved and i thought it could be interference screwing with the cable.

Most likely its wrong drivers/codecs. Try deleting the old ones, and reinstalling clean with the new ones.

Seems strange for it to develope suddenly though.

You've tried L speaker in right terminal with both R and L cables and still had the problem?

Is it possible for you to try the speakers on another woofer?

Have you tried with the old soundcard/onboard and still had the problem?

Is is possible that you have overdriven the speakers?

As said you should move the sound card and reload drivers just in case.

Oh and RE the sound card purchase query:

You can get a card for $50 that has excellent bang for buck. But unless you are an audiophile or the onboard is very shit then it would be a wasted $50.

If the mobo is new then the onboard probably has more channels than any $70 card you could buy.
