I dont know if this has been addressed yet, but recently I was looking through the Students Online website from the BOS. In the Assessment Rank section of the site, this was displayed:

Please note that students undertaking extension courses are ranked with the 2 unit class on the 2 unit course. This means that a student who comes first in the 2 unit class may not necessarily be ranked first in the course, as he/she is being compared with those students undertaking both the 2 unit and the extension course.

Now I've tried to understand it, but I don't think I'm right. Could someone please explain in PLAIN english what this means? lol

thanks :)

Extension students have both a 2-unit and an extension component.

For the purposes of the 2-unit component, they're ranked along with all 2-unit students, irrespective of whether those students are also taking the extension component.

Many schools hold separate classes for 2-unit and extension students, so if a 2-unit student is ranked first in their 2-unit class, they may actually be 'overtaken' by an extension student when the two groups are combined.

Not necessairly.

Each course is determined by the assesments undertaken in that course.

Ie. Your English Extension 2 assesments will determine ONLY you english extension 2 ranking, while your English Advanced assesments will determine ONLY your english advanced ranking.

Laz said when the two courses are combined, those in the ext course may "override" those only doing the adv. course. When does that happen?

It's a stupid "disclaimer" if it doesn't happen.

I said 'overtake', not 'override'. Very different meanings.

Simply put, the extension students might have higher 2-unit marks than the 2-unit students. So, when the two groups are combined, some of the extension students might be in front of some of the 2-unit students.
