Hey, I'm an '08 student and these are my subjects atm:
4u English
2u Adv Maths
Modern History
Extension history
Legal Studies.

For all of the subjects except maths, I get mid-high 80s, and for maths I get roughly 70ish. Its my worse subject and I'm in a dilemma at the moment as to whether to drop down to general maths. Im sure I can get at least 90 in general maths (I've looked at the syllabus and down some of the past papers).

I do however only have one uni option in which I don't need 2u maths, and this is the only thing I want to do at uni and I NEED a uai of 90+...
Would I be safe in dropping to gen maths or should I stick to adv maths and really try to get at least 80 (doubtful)

What do you think?

If you think you can get in the high 90's for general mathematics, but cannot cope with 2U maths as your getting in the 70s, then why not drop? You've got 4U English and Extension History as well to cope with. But it's entirely up to you.

You have to remember these are your school assessment marks right?

So the real question becomes ... what school do you go to ?

I go to a selective school...
How does that change anything though?

if you go to a selective school, the tests are generally harder and the standard too is high, so even though you may score 70 ish, it may look a bit closer to 80 after the external exam and moderation of school assessment marks.

but. . .

if you think you can get 90's in general, its definitely worth dropping down to. no point struggling in something that you're not confident with.

hey lou thanks for your reply... You're right about what you wrote. I want to get into law and the uni is QUT in QLD and maths is not a prerequisite. The standard is high at our school, except the students are very smart, and 70 in an advanced maths test is not considered very good and is ranked easily in the bottom half of the grade...

But thanks for everyone's reply...I'm going to wait til i get back to school and talk to my maths teacher and I might end up dropping
