Speaking to a friend who has decided to drop out next year, she explained that her reaosn for leaving was because the hsc didn't offer many courses that interested her. So if you could include any course in the HSC what would it be? Personally, I've always thought a course in politics or something would be interesting....

Personally, I'd really like to see schools offer some courses that are similar to those from universities (but reducing the difficulty of the content  )

hahaha i hate the courses as they are ><

all the math base ones have been dumbed down to the point where you can breeze through it with the exception of 4U math

engineering used to be strictly exercises but now the government has made it such the we must learn the history behind everything and social factors .....

More course just means more teachers are needed to teach a course, and guess what? WE DONT HAVE ENOUGHT TEACHER!! :mad1:well at least for a public school. Would be good if theres something along the lines of philosophy, i know it exists as a distinction course but it be interesting to see what it offers for normal people. But this bring back the issue of lack of teacher, for anyone can teach philosophy and understand the ideas behind it they are less likely to work at a school.

A Distinction course is for people who get band 6 in their accelerated course and it's taken concurrently with their other subjects in their HSC year. And yes, philosophy is offered, together with cosmology and comparative literature.

As for the thread subject--I'd like to see the sciences being more hardcore (especially chemistry--less wishy washy stuff, and I heard physics is equally as bad). Maths I can't really comment--I didn't find them lacking. English--well, I can't propose a viable change that could be implemented, but all I can say is I prefer the laissez faire analysis of texts as done in Years 7-10--just analyse them as they are, without reference to a set topic mould.

and what is a distinction course?
They offer philosophy as a distinction course, as well as cosmology and comparative literature. They designed for gifted and talented kids, and apparently u hv to be "invited" to do them.....

Anyway, answering the thread: I ONLY WISH THEY MADE AVIATION A UAI COURSE!! ><

actually if the hsc doesn't offer any courses that suited her .. then isn't that just another way of saying i think education blows?

because if she wanted to get into uni (with its multitudes of mind-tingling courses .. supposedly) then i'm PRETTY sure that you'll need to do hsc subjects to get the required uai and everything to enter. even if its at tafe. hmmm or is there some other secret passageway towards uni where the hsc can be 'deferred'?
